TNMU Delegation Took Part in the Coordination Meeting of Ukrainian and American Partner Universities in the Field of Public Health

On April 12-13, 2024, a coordination meeting of Ukrainian and American partner universities in the field of Public Health was held in Uzhhorod. On behalf of Ukraine, representatives of three selected Ukrainian universities (National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”, I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University and Sumy State University), representatives of the All-Ukrainian Association of Public Health Specialists took part in the meeting. Facilitators were representatives of the College of Public Health at Temple University, USA and the Dornsife School of Public Health at Drexel University, USA. The meeting took place within the framework of the USAID Building a Sustainable Public Health System for the formation of capable personnel in the field of public health and partnership between universities.

Ternopil National Medical University was presented by the Vice-Rector for Science and Education, Professor Arkadii Shulhai, Acting Head of the Department of Public Health and Healthcare Management, Professor Nataliia Terenda, Associate Professor of the Department of Public Health and Healthcare Management Liudmyla Truschenkova.

The main goal of the USAID Building a Sustainable Public Health System project is to increase the capacity of the Government of Ukraine to perform basic public health functions at the national, regional, and local levels.

One of the key elements in this direction is qualified and competent public health personnel.

In order to build the potential for the development of national human resources, the Project starts a sub-activity with the cooperation of educational institutions of Ukraine and the USA on the training of a new generation of public health specialists who possess proven knowledge and skills.

This meeting is the first step in establishing close coordination and cooperation between Ukrainian and American universities. Representatives of the interested parties identified the main areas of activity within the partnership.

We express our deepest appreciation to the USAID project and the representatives of American universities, Doctor of Philosophy, Associate Professor of the Department of Health Care Management and Policy William Aaronson (Temple University) and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Public Health Practice, Clinical Professor of Health Care Policy and Management Jennifer Kolker (Drexel University) for supporting Ukrainian scientists in the development of future public health professionals, and also to William Aaronson separately for his personal position, sincere attitude towards Ukraine during Russia’s invasion.
