TNMU Held Olympiad in Medical Chemistry and Biological and Bioorganic Chemistry

I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University held the first stage of the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad in the academic disciplines “Medical Chemistry” and “Biological and Bioorganic Chemistry”. The Olympiad was organised by the Department of General Chemistry.

It was held in remote format using the MOODLE platform in compliance with the rules of academic integrity.

27 first-year students of the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry took part in the Olympiad in the “Medical Chemistry” course. Associate Professors Hryhorii Zahrychuk and Lesia Hnatyshyna were responsible for the organisation and conduction of the event. Students did test and creative tasks, such as solving chemical tasks related to the formulation of reaction equations and the calculation of multilevel chemical tasks that have practical applications in medicine.

According to the results of the first stage of the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad in the “Medical Chemistry” course, the following students won the competition:

1st place – Viktoria Mosula (MM-105)

2nd place – Bohdan Yurchenko (MM-111)

3rd place – Danylo Shovykov (MM-116);

3rd place – Denys Dolhopolov (MM-102);

23 students of the Faculty of Medicine (2nd-year students) and Faculty of Pharmacy (2nd- and 3rd-year students) took part in the Olympiad in Biological and Bioorganic Chemistry. The event was organised and conducted by Associate Professors Hryhorii Zahrychuk, Iryna Bekus, Maria Kyryliv, Professor Petro Lykhatskyi. The organisers prepared two-level tasks that helped to test knowledge and ability to solve various non-standard problems in biological and bioorganic chemistry. So, the tasks were presented in the form of test and creative assignments, which are aimed at analysing the conformity of the structure of bioorganic compounds with the metabolic transformations occurring in the human body.

Therefore, during the first stage of the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad in the “Biological and Bioorganic Chemistry” course, the following students won the competition:

1st place – Olesia Zahrychuk (MM-203)

2nd place – Daryna Mykus (MM-228)

2nd place – Viktoria Zhovtiukh (MM-207)

3rd place – Alina Babii (MM-203)

3rd place – Viktoria Puhal (FF-201)

3rd place – Oleksandra Panchuk (MM-216).

The results of the Olympiad proved the appropriate professional level of preparation of the winners, a high degree of the practical skills and abilities development.
