TNMU hosted International Medical Quiz

On March 5, 2020, the first International Medical Quiz was hosted at the Main Hall of TNMU. This event was organized by the International Sector of TNMU Students Parliament with the aim of bringing students from various nationalities together to compete in a friendly environment to demonstrate their academic prowess.

This quiz was medical based, as participants were tested on pre-clinical (basic medicine) as well as clinical subjects.

A total of 6 teams participated in the event with each team having 5 members divided across the different courses. Each team represented their various nationalities in which a total of 7 countries were represented on the day.

Team “Champs” represented Zimbabwe and Swaziland: Pearl Anesu Mpofu (captain), Tanaka Cliff Nhokwara, Simphiwe Sisekelo, Awakhiwe Blessing Ncube, Thandeka Thonye-Ndebele.

Team “Trivians” represented India: Varsha (captain), Sunny Singh, Mujahaith Ali, Pandian Subhash, Simran Mehra.

Team “NUGS-T” represented Ghana: Abdallah Ahmed Abdul Faid (captain), Dennis Sunten, Emmanuel Nkrumah, Mensah Naana Gifty, Dennis Nkansah Appiah.

Team “Shaheen” represented Pakistan: Nayab Hussain (captain), Raj Kumar, Amit Kumar, Aaisha Razaq, Zobia Fatima.

Team “Invisibles” represented Nigeria: Orish Fortune (captain), Olatunbosun Segun, Bifugha Success, Iheagwam Emmanuella, Olodo Muiz.

Team “Ukraine” included Maksym Lysiuk, Oleksandra Bozhuk, Roman Korobko, Andrii Kolomiiets, Oleksandr Kukharchuk.

     

A total of 28 questions were answered by the participants and at the end the 6th round which was the final round, the Nigerian Team took first position with a total of 21 points, Ghanaian team came 2nd with a total of 20 points. The mixed Zimbabwean and Swazi team came 3rd with 18 points, Indian team scored 16 points coming in 4th position, Pakistan in 5th with 13 points and the Ukrainian teaming coming 6th place with 11 points.

A multinational judging panel which was set up to ensure transparency in scores collation comprised of Kumar Akshay (Pakistan), Addo Maame Akosua (Ghana), Maduka Chibuike (Nigeria), Nyasha Mupoperi (Zimbabwe), Adebanjo Victoria (Nigeria) , Shubham Bharti ( India).

 

The quiz was a very interesting learning experience and it served as a medium of motivation to the students to be steadfast in search of knowledge.

The participants were given Certificates and Prize Vouchers. The organizing committee expresses the appreciation to all those who helped sponsor the event .

The organizing committee was headed by Abdulsalam Omobayo Akinlade and comprised of Maksym Lysiuk, Kaiser Discher Amoah Koduah, Khan Mohammad Shumayel, Singh Harshvardhan Ajay and Adetomiwa Adeniyi. They regarded the event as a success and are hopeful that such an event could occur yearly to foster bond between students from different nationalities.
