TNMU Hosted the 6th All-Ukrainian Scientific and Applied Conference with International Participation “Chemistry of Natural Compounds”

On October 27-28, 2022, I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University hosted the 6th All-Ukrainian Scientific and Applied Conference “Chemistry of Natural Compounds”. The conference was held online in the conference hall of TNMU with simultaneous broadcast on the YouTube channel, where the video recording is available for viewing. More than 180 participants registered to participate in the conference, more than 600 participants watched the broadcast every day.

The conference was attended by representatives of 37 different organizations from Ukraine, 13 – Poland, 3 – Lithuania, 1 – Georgia, 3 – Azerbaijan, 1 – Greece, 1 – Jordan, including 32 medical and pharmaceutical universities, 14 non-medical universities, 5 scientific-research institutes of the National Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, research institutes of Lithuania and Poland, M. Hryshko National Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kremenets Botanical Garden, Research Station of Medicinal Plants of the Institute of Agroecology and Nature Management of the National Academy of Sciences, ORGANOSIN LTD LLC (Kyiv) , research and production company “Ekofarm”. Based on the materials of the conference, a collection of conference materials was published.

On behalf of the Rector of TNMU, Professor Mykhaylo Korda, TNMU Vice-Rector for Research, Professor Ivan Klishch addressed the participants of the conference with a welcome speech, emphasizing the importance of holding this event in such a difficult time for Ukraine. Addressing the participants of the conference, Professor Ivan Klishch noted that during such events researchers exchange experience and share their scientific achievements. He emphasized the importance of such conferences and wished effective discussions and significant success for everyone in the future.

The Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy of TNMU, Associate Professor Dmytro Korobko, also gave a welcome speech to the conference participants.

The Head of the Department of Pharmacognosy with Medical Botany Professor Svitlana Marchyshyn and the Head of the Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology Professor Oleksandra Oleshchuk (co-chairs of the conference) wished the participants of this event a successful cooperation.

At the conference, 35 reports were presented and discussed at the plenary and 2 break-out sessions, which related to various aspects of studying the composition, analysis, pharmacological and microbiological activity of substances obtained from medicinal plants, standardization of medicinal plant raw materials and the creation, production, standardization of medicinal products based on medicinal plant raw materials, preclinical studies of medicinal products of natural origin.

The conference also included the training aimed at acquiring practical skills, at which lectures were given by leading experts in the field of pharmacy and pharmacology of Ukraine.

The speakers of the plenary lectures were Professor A. R. Hrytsyk (Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University), Professor O. Yu. Konovalova (Kyiv Medical University), Professor V. M. Minarchenko (O. O. Bohomolets National Medical University), Professor M.R. Khara (TNMU), Professor T. P. Harnyk (V. I. Vernadsky Taurida National University), PhD, DSc Kinga Gawel (Medical University of Lublin) and Professor S. M. Marchyshyn (TNMU).

Lectures at the training on mastering practical skills were delivered by Prof. O. M. Oleschuk (TNMU), Prof. H.V. Zaichenko (O.O. Bogomolets National Medical University), Prof. K. A. Posohova (TNMU), Assoc. Prof. O.V . Matvieieva (O.O. Bogomolets National Medical University).

The conference gave an opportunity to get acquainted with the work of leading scientists in the field of pharmacy of Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Georgia, Azerbaijan and to share the experience.

As the conclusion of the conference, a decision was made regarding the need to join forces and establish cooperation between specialists of various pharmaceutical and medical educational institutions of Ukraine with the aim of comprehensive research of medicinal plant raw materials, creation of new original and effective domestic medicines based on them, and introduction of the obtained results into practical pharmacy and medicine.
