On April 8-10, 2024, TNMU hosted the XXVIII Congress of Students and Young Scientists, dedicated to the 170th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Horbachevsky.

During the ceremonial opening of the event in the assembly hall of the administrative building, Tetiana Podilska, head of the board of the Students Scientific Society of Ternopil National Medical University, noted that 527 abstracts were sent to the organizing committee for publication, 328 oral presentations were planned, 48 of which were submitted by our guests – young scientists from such educational institutions, such as P. Shupyk National University of Health of Ukraine, O. Bohomolets National Medical University, Danylo Halytskyi Lviv National Medical University, V. Karazin Kharkiv National University, M. Pyrohov Vinnytsia National University, Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University, Uzhhorod National University, Poltava State Medical University, Bukovyna State Medical University, Luhansk State Medical University, Khmelnytskyi Basic Medical College.

Tetiana Podilska suggested to all those present in the hall to thank the defenders of Ukraine for the opportunity to hold a scientific event and to honour the deceased with a moment of silence. With words of gratitude, she turned to everyone who participated in the organization and holding of this year’s Congress of students and young scientists, and invited the Rector of the university, Professor Mykhaylo Korda, to give a welcome speech.

Addressing the participants of the event, Mykhaylo Korda expressed his sincere joy in view of the offline format of the congress: “Such a large hall of enthusiasts and young scientists gathered. We have guests from other universities of Ukraine. Today, we received more than 500 papers for the conference. All of them will be published in the collection of papers. Guests came from other universities of Ukraine. And it’s very good that young people continue to do science, despite such difficult times that we have today in Ukraine,” the rector emphasized.

Mykhaylo Korda noted that TNMU has created all opportunities for students and young scientists to engage in research: there are scientific clubs at the departments, 5 state-certified laboratories are functioning. All this leads to high efficiency, scientific productivity and, accordingly, ensures leading places of our university in international and all-Ukrainian rankings.

Addressing the participants of the congress, Mykhaylo Korda emphasized: “Your scientific products, your education are the contribution to the well-being of the country today. And our country will especially need your professionalism soon after our victory – to rebuild the country and the health care system of Ukraine! I urge you: keep being active, keep doing scientific research, keep learning well!”

TNMU Vice-Rector for Research, Professor Ivan Klishch, addressing the students and young scientists, pointed out the importance of the event in both the scientific and political aspects. According to his speech, the organization and holding of such gatherings is an eloquent response to the aggressor who is trying to deprive us, Ukrainians, of our future, and it is an affirmation of further prospects for the development of our state. And it is not a coincidence that the current congress is called “Future by Science”, because without science there is no future.

Moreover, as part of the celebrations, the awarding of students who are winners of the first stage of the All-Ukrainian competition of student scientific papers took place. Diana Savkiv, Dmytro Koval, Sofia Chornii and Viktoria Miroshnyk, Bohdan Pynda, Iryna Furdela, Olesia Rozheliuk received 1st degree diplomas; Anastasia Shevchuk – 2nd degree diploma.
