TNMU hosted the First International Ukrainian-German Symposium on Public Health “Public health in social and educational environment – Today’s challenges and development prospects”

On September 25–26, 2019, I. Horbechevsky Ternopil National Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine hosted the first international Ukrainian-German symposium on public health “Public health in social and educational environment – Today’s challenges and development prospects”, organized and held jointly with the Akkon University of Human Sciences in Berlin with the support of the Federal Ministry of Health of Germany.

The opening of the symposium began with a welcome speech by Ternopil National Medical University Rector Doctor f Medicine, Professor M. M. Korda and Doctor f Medicine, Professor of Akkon University of Human Sciences in Berlin Timo Ulrichs.

 

Professor Timo Ulrichs greeted on behalf of the German delegation and presented TNMU Rector, Doctor f Medicine, Professor M. M. Korda with valuable gifts – books on public health.

Director General of the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine Volodymyr Kurpita, congratulated the participants of the symposium remotely through Skype and made a presentation on the actual topic “Public Health System in Ukraine: Current Status and Prospects for Development”.

The speakers of the plenary session of the symposium were:

• Professor Timo Ulrichs with a report on the topic: “Overall perspectives and future ways of cooperation, especially between TNMU and AKKON university”;

• Mykhailo Riabinchuk, Head of the Coordination of Education Programs Department of the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine with the report on “Building Human Resources for the Public Health System in Ukraine”;

• Project Coordinator of the Institute for Research and International Cooperation Gabi Feldman;

• Representative of the German delegation Arina Levchaeva (Akkon University, Germany).

Particular interest was aroused by the reports of the heads and professors of the departments of public health of the universities of Ukraine, in particular the O. Bogomolets Kyiv National Medical University, Uzhhorod National University, Sumy State University, Vinnytsia National Medical University. Pyrogov, National University, National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”, National University “Ostroh Academy”, Bukovynian State Medical University and others.

Tetiana Hruzieva, head of the public health department, professor at the O. Bogomolets National Medical University speaking on “Priorities of educational activities in the field of public health”.

The plenary session of the Symposium was also attended by Tetiana Yurochko, Head of the Department of Health Care School at the National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”,

Professor of Sumy State University Vladyslav Smiianov

and Head of the Department of the National University “Ostroh Academy” Ihor Hushchuk.

Further discussions on public health issues were continued at the sectional meetings.

In total, over 100 scientists participated in the first international Ukrainian-German symposium on public health, including professors, teachers and students, organizers and specialists in public health of Ukraine and other countries, including Germany, Poland and Canada, which will help to create a scientific basis for the formation of strategic decisions in the field of public health and the development of educational activities for the training of public health professionals in Ukraine.
