TNMU Hosted Training and Research Conference “Medical Management and Psycho- and Neurorehabilitation of Mental and Neurological Disorders in War Conditions”

On March 28-29, 2024, I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University hosted a research and training conference with international participation “Medical management and psycho- and neurorehabilitation of mental and neurological disorders in war conditions”. The event was jointly organized by the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology and Medical Psychology and the Department of Neurology of TNMU. The event was held at Ternopil Regional Clinical Psychoneurological Hospital. Part of the reports were delivered in online format.

During the opening ceremony, Director of Health Care Department of Ternopil Regional Military Administration, Olha Yarmolenko, TNMU Vice-Rector for Science, Education and Clinical Affairs, Professor Stepan Zaporozhan and General Director of Ternopil Regional Clinical Psychoneurological Hospital Volodymyr Shkrobot made a welcome speech.

The event was opened by the Deputy Director for Research of the Institute of Neurology, Psychiatry and Narcology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Professor Nataliia Maruta, with a report “Stress-related disorders during the war: modern views on diagnosis and treatment”.

Dmytro Lebedynets, a member of the working group on fighting stroke and an expert of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the National Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery, the Head of the Stroke Centre at the Feofania Clinical Hospital, in his report “Modern trends in the treatment of ischemic stroke” provided current data on management approaches and treatment of stroke patients.

During the event, scientific reports were presented by TNMU employees, in particular, the Head of the Department of Neurology, Professor Svitlana Shkrobot presented a report on the topic “Clinical manifestations of Guillain-Barré syndrome in COVID-19”, as well as “Stroke and antiphospholipid syndrome”. Khrystyna Duve, Associate Professor of the Department of Neurology, presented a report on “Encephalopathies: questions and answers”.

The Head of the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology and Medical Psychology, Professor Olena Venger presented the reports “Anxiety and depression in the structure of post-traumatic stress reactions” and “Treatment of depressive disorders in military personnel”. Professor of the same department, Professor Yurii Mysula, told the audience about “Features of anxiety and depression in the modern world”. Volodymyr Bilous, Assistant Professor of the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology and Medical Psychology, delivered a report “Experience of treating sleep disorders in patients with anxiety and depression”.

In general, leading experts from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Vinnytsia, Kropyvnytskyi, Uzhhorod and other cities of Ukraine took part in the scientific meeting. More than 2,000 participants attended the event online. During the meetings, 21 scientific reports were presented and discussed, including 2 speakers from France and Hungary. Also, during the conference, 31 poster reports were presented in the fields of “Psychiatry” and “Neurology”.

Participation in the conference became an opportunity for specialists in psychiatry and neurology to exchange experience, to deepen their understanding of the principles of work in interdisciplinary teams, to establish cooperation in areas of intersection of competencies.
