TNMU is the leader among Ukrainian medical universities according to the results of IFOM examination
I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University ranks first according to the percentage of correct answers in the International Foundations of Medicine (IFOM) examination. This was reported during a briefing on August 6, 2019 with the participation of Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine Oleksandr Linchevskyi and Deputy Director of Organization and Conduction of Licensing Examinations of the Testing Center at the Ministry of Health of Ukraine Lesia Voitenko.
The briefing presented the group results of the International Foundations of Medicine (IFOM) examination, which took place on July 1-3, 2019.
This year, Ukrainian third-year medical students passed this international exam in the basics of medicine within the framework of the Unified State Qualification Examination, which tests the level of professional competence in fundamental disciplines, for the first time.
The results of the examination were tested and verified by the most reputable international certification agency in the world – National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME, USA).
This year, over 12,000 medical students from 21 institutions of higher education of Ukraine took the international examination.
According to NBME estimates, TNMU third-year students in the specialty “Medicine” showed the best academic performance with 36.32% of correct answers.

Subsequently, the results provided by the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) will be analyzed by a special committee in collaboration with NBME representatives to evaluate student outcomes. The impact of a number of serious violations recorded during the exam will also be taken into account.
“With this exam, we have actually started a new era in medical education in Ukraine,” said Oleksandr Linchevskyi, Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine. “Medical education will evolve and education quality assessment level will meet international standards. This is an integral part of the massive transformation of the healthcare system.”
The first place of TNMU in the IFOM examination rating once again evidenced the high quality of the provision of educational services and the proper training of medical personnel in higher education.
