TNMU Professor Participated in the Training “Fundamentals of Effective Leadership and Management”

On April 8-12, 2024, Nataliia Terenda, Professor of TNMU Department of Public Health and Healthcare Management, took part in the training “Fundamentals of effective leadership and management” (Uzhgorod).

The training was implemented by the USAID project “Building a sustainable public health system” and is aimed at public health leaders in order to strengthen and expand their competence and management skills. This course is the first in a series of educational programs aimed at developing the next generation of public health leaders. The competitive selection took place under the “Leadership Program for Public Health” initiated by the Ministry of Health with the support of WHO. The course was implemented with the support of the All-Ukrainian Association of Public Health Specialists.

In the Ukrainian public health system, there has been a lack of qualified personnel for a long time. This problem has become extremely evident during the COVID-19 pandemic and has become even more acute with the start of the Russian Federation’s full-scale war against Ukraine. At the same time, traditional challenges to the development of public health human resources remain relevant, namely: there is still a prejudice about the lower prestige of the profession and the level of pay in the field of public health compared to other medical or related fields, which accordingly affects the level of employment and employment opportunities. In addition, the ongoing reform of the public health system requires medical workers to acquire new knowledge and skills.
