TNMU Provides Free Dental Care to the Defenders and Refugees

One of the areas of volunteer affairs of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University is free dental care. More than a hundred people have already received it.

Volodymyr Machohan, the Head of the Department of Dentistry of the University Clinic of TNMU, Associate Professor of the Department of Dentistry of the Faculty of Postgraduate Education, said that since the first days of the war TNMU dentists have been providing emergency dental care. They organized the work of the radiology office, registry, departments of TNMU, including postgraduate education: Departments of Pediatric Dentistry, Orthopedic Dentistry, Dental Therapy, Dental Surgery.

Every day our specialists assist patients. The nurses also joined and perform their duties by sterilizing a large number of dental instruments each day.

Children come to the dentist’s office. Young patients are assisted at the Department of Paediatric Dentistry, where one of the paediatric dentists is always on duty. Those who apply are provided with X-ray service, a panoramic picture is also possible. A few years ago, the university acquired up-to-date X-ray equipment from a Japanese manufacturer. Allergic tests for sensitivity to anesthetics are performed at the laboratory at 5 Chekhov Street every day from 10 to 11.30. Today it is the only laboratory in Ternopil that does not stop its work under martial law.

The university administration has assigned funds for main materials in order to provide free care to patients with acute toothache, as well as targeted radiography for the temporarily displaced persons and servicemen.

The interns of the first and second years of study work at the reception and assist their teachers. In simple cases, they provide dental care by their own: remove a moving tooth, eliminate acute pain.
