TNMU Ranks First among Medical Universities of Ukraine in Summer Version of Webometrics Rating

At the end of July 2022, a new version of the Webometrics (Ranking Web of Universities) rating was published, which reflects the activities of higher education institutions during the first half of 2022. Ternopil National Medical University took first place among medical universities of Ukraine and tenth among 312 Ukrainian higher education institutions. Last year, we ranked second among medical universities and twenty-first among Ukrainian higher education institutions. In general, more than 30,000 universities in the world were evaluated for their presence in the web space.

The Webometrics rating has been compiled since 2004 by one of the largest scientific institutions in Europe – the National Research Council of Spain.

The main goal of the rating is to promote academic presence on the Internet, maintain open access to significantly increase the transfer of scientific and cultural knowledge in universities around the world.

According to the authors, the Webometrics rating, with the help of independent web indicators and a scientifically based model, evaluates all aspects of the university’s activities: scientific, educational, cultural, social, sports, etc. This distinguishes Webometrics rating from other Internet ratings.

When determining the position of the university in the rating, the developers take into account the following indicators:

Excellence (or Scholar) – the number of articles by scientists working at the university that are in the top 10% of the most cited in 26 disciplines according to Scimago calculations for 2013-2017.

Transparency or Openness – the most cited studies are taken into account. The number of citations from the 210 most popular authors (excluding the 20 most famous researchers).

Visibility – The number of external sources that link back to the university’s web pages, as calculated using the Ahrefs.com external link analysis service and the Majestic Internet Marketing and Search Engine Optimization link analysis system.
