TNMU scholars can apply for RECOOP grants

In October 2019,  I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University became a member of RECOOP HST Association (The Association for Regional Cooperation in the fields of Health, Science and Technology).

The RECOOP HST was established in 2006 by Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (CSMC, Los Angeles, USA), together with eleven institutes and universities from six Central and Eastern European countries (CEE). In 2012, a consortium-based CSMC created the Regional Health, Science and Technology Cooperation (RECOOP HST Association), which is legally registered in Hungary (Debrecen, registration number 4160 of 10/05/2012, TAX ID: 18299140-1 -09). The President of the Association for Regional Cooperation in Health, Science and Technology is Dr. Sandor G. Vari, Director of International Scientific and Innovation Programs at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Members of the Association are research institutes and universities from Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine and the USA:

  1. Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (CSMC, Los Angeles, USA).
  2. J. Strossmayer University, Medical School (Osijek, Croatia).
  3. ICEM – Institute of Clinical and Experimental Medicine (Prague, Czech Republic).
  4. Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences (Czech Republic).
  5. University of Defense, Faculty of Military Medicine (Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic).
  6. Copenhagen University, Faculty of Pharmacy (Copenhagen, Denmark).
  7. Debrecen University (Debrecen, Hungary).
  8. Szeged University (Szeged, Hungary).
  9. Karol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy (Bucharest, Hungary).
  10. University of Pécs (Pécs, Hungary).
  11. Slovak Medical University (Bratislava, Slovakia).
  12. Danylo Halytsky National Medical University of Lviv.
  13. Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery, NAMS of Ukraine (Kyiv, Ukraine).
  14. Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics, NAS of Ukraine (Kyiv, Ukraine).
  15. O. Palladin Institute of Biochemistry, NAS of Ukraine (Kyiv, Ukraine).
  16. Institute of Cell Biology, NAS of Ukraine (Lviv, Ukraine).
  17. I.Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University.
  18. Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (CSMC) and RECOOP HST have established a Strategic Alliance based on high-quality scientific achievements from individual partners. The Strategic Alliance assists its members with quality management of research and innovation, enhancing biomedical research and research capacity.

The main objective of the Strategic Alliance is to educate and motivate scientists to enable laboratories to obtain maximum results, and to transform research results into “long-term results” – commercially available products: new diagnostic tools, new medical devices and new drugs for the benefit of society .

The Association has implemented a continuing education program, and its members organize summer schools for research and innovation management, making extensive use of the opportunities offered by the World Intellectual Property Academy (WIPO) courses for teachers, management staff and aspirants. The Association enhances its success by licensing intellectual property before it is put into production by creating a portfolio of collective patents and a patent database (Patent Warehouse TM). The RECOOP HST maintains a registry of research tools (cell lines, test kits, antibodies, markers). The Association’s partners use these tools to increase the research effectiveness of each participating organization. The RECOOP HST Consortium creates interdisciplinary research networks to enhance the competitiveness of academic institutions.

In 2012, the RECOOP HST Association integrated multidisciplinary and multicentre research into the RECOOP Life Science Research Platform and set up 17 CSMS RECOOP Research Centers (CRRS) in 7 countries (Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine).

The main areas of research within the RECOOP HST Association are:

  • Nanomedicine & Drug Development
  • Neurodegenerative Diseases
  • Metabolic disorders (obesity, diabetes, metabolicsyndrome, etc.)
  • Infections and Inflammation (including low-gradeinflammation)
  • Reproductive Health
  • Preterm births

To find partners for joint research and to apply for RECOOP grants, TNMU scientists must contact the Head of Research Office Oksana Shevchuk.
