TNMU scientists participated in the XIII International Conference on Emergency Medicine and Critical Care “KOPERNIK – 2019”

On November 15-17, 2019 in Lodz (Poland), the XIII International Conference on Emergency Medicine and Critical Care “KOPERNIK – 2019” was attended by Professor M. I. Shved M.I., Head of the Department of Emergency Medical Care and Associate Professor of this department R. M. Liakhovych, who delivered a report. This year, this scientific event gathered over 800 students. Apart from the Ukrainian delegation, it was attended by scientists from the USA, UK, France, Canada, Hungary, Lithuania, Australia, Germany and Poland.

On the first day, in the simulation training center of Medical University of Lodz, educational and demonstration sessions were held in 6 sections, where modern medical algorithm for performing qualified resuscitation (ALS) for patients with different types of sudden cardiac arrest was reproduced with the help of medical equipment and dummies. The progressive techniques of tracheal intubation with video cameras located directly on or near the laryngoscope were of great interest to the listeners, which greatly facilitates this manipulation in the presence of various types of its complication.

Another section was dedicated to the development of practical skills in the ensuring intraosseous access in children. At the same time, each of the students could initially with the help of the teacher, and subsequently independently, to develop these skills. 

On the same day, a festive opening of the conference was attended by representatives of the Ministry, the Administration of the Lodz voivodeship, mayor office of Lodz, leading experts in the field of Emergency Medicine, in particular Dorota Hajewska, President of the Association of Emergency Doctors, Radzyslaw Kornek, Rector of Lodz University of Medicine, Lisa Moreno, President-Elect of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (USA) and others.

The next two days were devoted to 58 reports, presented by the attendees. Their topics were related to the latest advances in the algorithm of medical sorting for mass lesions, in particular in case of terrorist acts, organization of emergency departments, pre-hospital and early hospital resuscitation, problems of diagnosis and treatment of sepsis in adults and children, traumatic injuries of different localization, experience of implementation of simulation centers in the educational process in domedic and medical care, training of paramedics. The last topic was covered in the lecture of Associate Professor R. Liakhovych.

In his report, Assoc. Prof. Liakhovych described the organization paramedics training at I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, noting that it was our university that initiated the training in this field, emphesizing on the principles of diagnostics and provision of emergency medical care with the account of modern emergency medicine protocols, BLS, ALS, ATLS recommendations and more. It was also noted that the practical part of the lessons is conducted in the center of simulation training of our university, which today is one of the best in Ukraine.
