Priorities for pediatric training and research should be determined primarily by the needs of this field of medicine. Currently, in Ukraine there is an increase in the prevalence of respiratory diseases, congenital anomalies, neoplasms, diseases of the endocrine system, diseases of the circulatory system, injuries and poisoning in children. Obviously, such dynamics of childhood diseases prevalence testify to the impact of polluted environment, unhealthy lifestyle of most Ukrainian families, a number of hereditary factors, poor diet and the spread of bad habits among children and adolescents. Today, reform in the field of medicine and medical education is accompanied with the backdrop of pediatric training in medical universities, which can lead to crisis phenomena regarding the provision of pediatric physicians, pediatric infectious diseases and neonatologists and, in the future, impair the quality of health care delivery in the country.
