TNMU Student Delivered a Series of Lectures for Schoolchildren

In January 2024, a student of TNMU Faculty of Medicine Olena Iskra (MM-416) gave 11 lectures on the topic “Adolescents in the medical field” for 7th-8th-grade schoolchildren and “All about electronic cigarettes and energy drinks” for 5th-10th-grade schoolchildren of L. Darbinyan Korostyshiv Lyceum No. 2.

The purpose of the event “Adolescents in the medical field” is to tell students whether they can go to a doctor on their own, from what age teenagers can do it and how, as well as to briefly talk about the various specialties of doctors and emphasize their responsibilities as patients.

   

   

The purpose of the event “All about electronic cigarettes and energy drinks” is to tell children and teenagers with what electronic cigarettes and energy drinks are, what substances they contain, why people develop addiction, what harm these devices and drinks bring. The student also presented a research, the purpose of which was to convince children of the harmfulness of these things.

During the lectures, the children actively asked questions and participated in the discussion. The most frequent questions from children related to the lecture “All about electronic cigarettes and energy drinks”, as this topic is very relevant among young people today, namely: “What is more harmful – an electronic cigarette or an energy drink?”, “Why is an electronic cigarette more dangerous?”, “What is the amount of alcohol consumed?”, “Does energy drink harm a child and an adult?”, “What will happen to a person who drinks energy drink?”.

   

 

   

As for the lecture “Adolescents in the medical field”, the children asked how to contact a doctor, and were also interested in the narrow specialties of doctors.

After the lectures, the students began to better understand which doctor they can turn to in case of a health issue and how they can do it, they also became aware of the dangers of electronic cigarettes and energy products.
