TNMU Students Delivered Lectures for Ternopil Schoolchildren on the Culture of India

On January 23 and 30, 2024, TNMU students Andrii Svirzhevskyi (group MM-320) and Shivam Dubey (group IM-534) organized interactive meetings with the 8th-, 10th- and 11th-grade students of Ternopil Secondary School No. 23 on the topic ” India, its culture and traditions, medicine and sports”.

Shivam spoke about the multifaceted culture, peculiarities and diversity of each state and religions of India. He drew attention to the peculiarities of medicine and sports in this country. The students were struck by the fact that more than 120 languages are spoken in the country, as well as the fact that most of its inhabitants are vegetarians. High school students were interested in how funerals and weddings take place. Shivam compared the peculiarities of Ukrainian and Indian cuisine. During the conversation, Andrii helped translate and explained what Shivam was talking about.

The last meeting took place in the shelter, because at that moment the air alarm sounded. The schoolchildren were impressed by the active volunteerism of the students, especially Shivam, who personally made over 1000 trench candles.

The tasks of the meetings were to deepen students’ interest in the culture of other peoples, to tell them about the traditions, language and peculiarities of the Indian states, to interest and stimulate them to study the English language more intensively.

The schoolchildren were satisfied with this format of the meeting and invited our students to come again, as they still have many questions, the answers to which they want to hear.

The students of TNMU express their deepest appreciation to T. B. Derevinska, an English teacher, and O. M. Sobchuk, a computer science teacher, for their profound support.
