TNMU Students Organized a Lecture “Diabetes: Risk Groups, Symptoms, Prevention”

On December 2, 2021, TNMU students held an educational lecture on “Diabetes mellitus: risk groups, symptoms, prevention” for pupils of 8-9 forms of Kolosiv and Popivets gymnasiums of Kremenets district.

The issue is quite topical, as diabetes is one of the causes of high mortality after cardiovascular and oncological diseases, often leads to comorbidities and complications, early disability.

The pupils were informed about risk factors: children learned that overweight, sedentary lifestyle, poor eating can be triggers for development of this pathology. They learned to detect typical signs of the disease (persistent thirst, dry mouth, hunger even after eating, frequent urination, loss of visual acuity, lethargy).

Also, in the form of a game, the pupils learned the tactics in case of worsening of health, simulated a situation in which they had the opportunity to assess the condition of an imaginary patient and provide home care to prevent coma. Students learned about the moral and ethical principles necessary in the society for the comfort of the sick, as these people need to strictly adhere to the regime of insulin, timely nutrition to prevent worsening. So, in no case we shouldn’t create with our behaviour the situations, in which the patient will feel different in the environment.

The children actively participated in the discussion of the topic, learned a lot of useful information that they may need in the future.

The organizers of the event were Viktoria Kisil (group MM-418) and Mariia Yakymchuk (group MM-418).
