TNMU students organized classes for “Karitas” pupils

On February 13, 2020, within the framework of “Misericordia” volunteer project, a fifth year student of TNMU Faculty of Dentistry Oksana Pelyp conducted a study session on the topic “Individual oral hygiene” at the charitable foundation “Karitas” for the pupils of this institution.

Individual hygiene, in particular oral hygiene, has considerable advantages over other methods of disease prevention. It is, at the same time, one of the simple, available and effective methods of preventing dental diseases and periodontitis. At this session, students of TNMU Oksana Pelyp and Khrystyna Pelyp expanded the pupils’ knowledge about hygiene.

The purpose of this session was to deepen the understanding of the functions of the teeth, to explain the negative impact of bad habits on the condition of the teeth, oral cavity, and occlusion, to talk about the rules of dental care. During the communication with children, students discussed the technique of regular and careful removal of food debris and plaque from all surfaces of the teeth with the help of individual hygiene products such as toothbrush, paste, dental floss, elixirs and others. There was a demonstration of the technique of cleaning different groups of teeth using a toothbrush. The manual skill of using the baby floss was also highlighted. Each attendee was able to ask questions and receive comprehensive answers from future dentists. In conclusion, students summarized all the recommendations for the choice of individual items and means of oral hygiene and treated the newly arrived students with useful citrus flavors.
