TNMU Teacher Participated in Conference of International Association for Medical Education

On August 27-31, 2022, the AMEE annual conference took place. Being one of the largest conferences on medical education in the world, it is organized by the International Association for Medical Education, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year (https://web -eur.cvent.com/event/a1fb1d48-3957-4538-ac2a-d904edd716c5/summary).

The conference was held in a mixed format: online in Lyon (France) and offline.

Thanks to the support of the Ukrainian-Swiss project “Development of medical education in Ukraine”, the teacher of our university, Associate Professor Sofiia Husak, Acting Head of the Centre for Improving Pedagogical and Professional Skills of Teachers, had the opportunity to participate online in this conference.

The program of the event was intense – 250 sessions and 1200 speakers from all over the world.

Every day from 4:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. EET there was an opportunity to participate in workshops, webinars, and trainings. Participating in workshops was the most interesting. A small number of participants, 20-30 people, facilitated work in small groups, practice of digital tools, group work.

The conference presented modern educational trends, the possibilities of distance education and the most modern digital tools, interesting teaching methods, such as the flipped classroom, when students study new material at home, and in class only master practical skills and material, or cocreating (close cooperation in the educational process between teachers and students), lectures conducted by interns or senior students together with teachers. The experience of using Learning Stations as an alternative to traditional lectures and lecture halls was also presented in a very interesting way.

Distance education in the world continues to develop rapidly. Digital educational escape rooms, which make the educational process interactive, exciting and interesting and open wide opportunities for students to be creative, are becoming increasingly popular. It should be noted that digital quest rooms can also be created on the MS Teams platform, which our university uses for online education.

The report of colleagues from Malaysia on the possibilities of virtual preparation of OSCE during distance learning, with the participation of a standardized patient and assessment of students’ competences, was extremely informative. The discussion of this topic (techniques, training of the standardized patient, assessment) evoked a very lively and interesting discussion.

In general, participation in the conference was a very useful experience, and virtual acquaintance with colleagues from all over the world is a unique and perhaps the most valuable result of the educational conference.

Sofiia Husak expresses her heartfelt appreciation to the Ukrainian-Swiss project https://mededu.org.ua/purpose/ for the opportunity to participate in this event.
