TNMU Teachers and Students Planted a Kobzar Tree

On the occasion of the 160th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko reburial, the teachers and students of the local history studio “Terpolyany” were invited by the Tovstenets UTC to plant Shevchenko’s willow in the village of Tovste.

In exile on the Kos-Aral Sea, Taras Shevchenko found a willow branch on the road, planted it, took care of it, and soon a willow tree grew; he loved to rest under its shade. The tree reminded our poet of Ukraine. After all, curly willows were the decoration of picturesque Ukrainian villages, pleasing to the eye on meadows, dams, over lakes and ponds.

In 1961, the poet Roman Lubkivskyi, a laureate of the T. Shevchenko State Prize of Ukraine, brought from Kazakhstan a rootstock of Kobzar tree to the village of Tovste. Later, in 1992, a monument to Taras Shevchenko was established near this tree. For over 60 years, this tree has delighted the eyes of residents and guests of the town with its beauty, but, unfortunately, during last year’s storm, it was destroyed. However, the locals managed to save the branch from which they grew the seedling, which was planted by teachers and students of our university.

Opera Tatiana, Sorokivskyi Illia, Buchko Andriana, Deliu Dmytro and Taras, Struk Marta, Nadkevych Anastasia joined this event.
