TNMU Teachers Completed Internship in Medical Institutions of Latvia

During the working visit to Latvia, the Head of TNMU Department of Psychiatry, Narcology and Medical Psychology, Professor Olena Venger and Assistant Professor of the Department Tetiana Ivanitska participated in the exchange of experience in the leading psychiatric treatment and rehabilitation institutions of the Republic.

On December 13, members of the department visited Rīgas psichiatrijas un narkoloġijas centrs – a leading psychiatric clinic in Riga. During the meeting, the chief doctor of the institution Elmārs Tērauds conducted a tour of the hospital, talked about the peculiarities of providing psychiatric care to people with various mental disorders, shared the latest implementations and treatment methods used in the institution. In turn, the teachers of TNMU, who work at Ternopil Regional Clinical Psychoneurological Hospital, shared the scientific and medical achievements of the department and the hospital.

On December 14, the delegation visited the Vaivari National Rehabilitation Center in Jurmala, the largest medical facility of its type in Latvia. One of the main areas of activity of the “Vaivari” NRC is medical rehabilitation. The medical, technical and professional facility shows a sufficiently high level to fully provide a wide range of medical services. The key to the success of the “Vaivari” NRC is a highly professional, well-coordinated team of doctors – people for whom this is not just a daily job, but also a kind of mission.

In addition to the direct exchange of experience, representatives of TNMU visited wounded Ukrainian servicemen who are undergoing rehabilitation at the “Vaivari” NRC.

Furthermore, in Jurmala, the delegation visited the “Siva” rehabilitation facility, which specializes in the treatment of the musculoskeletal system, central and peripheral nervous system, cardiovascular system, and skin diseases. During the full-scale war in Ukraine, this institution also provides active assistance to Ukrainian military personnel.

The teachers of TNMU express their deepest appreciation to the organizers – NGO “All-Ukrainian League of Ukrainian Women” and Biedrība “TEV” – for an informative, useful and well-organized internship, the opportunity to meet and exchange experience with leading psychiatrists and rehabilitators of Latvia. Special thanks to the coordinator from the Latvian side, Amela Al-Asbahi, for this exchange of experience.
