TNMU teachers participated in the scientific and practical conference “Safety and regulatory support of medicines: from development to medical application”

Professors of the Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, the Head of the Department, Professor Oleksandra Oleshchuk and Assistant Halyna Loi participated in the 5th Scientific and Practical Conference with International Participation “Safety and regulatory support of medicines: from development to medical application”, dedicated to the memory of Professor Oleksii Viktorov.

The Conference was held on October 22-23, 2019 in Kyiv and was organized by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, the State Enterprise “State Expert Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine”.

During the conference, a plenary session, 16 section meetings and 2 roundtables were held to discuss topical issues of pharmacovigilance in Ukraine and the CIS, immunoprophylaxis safety, bioequivalence and drug monitoring, critical regulatory issues and communications with public and patient organizations. Security issues at the drug development stage, risk and signal management systems during clinical trials of medicines and post-registration, information and clinical data management, including the use of electronic resources, were also discussed.

The Conference was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the State Expert Center of the Ministry of Health, the Center of Public Health of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the State Service of Ukraine for Drugs and Drug Control, representatives of regulatory bodies of Ukraine and 6 CIS countries (Belarus, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan), a representative of the WHO Regional Office for Europe, scientists and pharmacovigilance representatives from the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and experts from the Netherlands, Germany and the United States, representing organizations such as the International Society of Pharmacovigilance (ISOP), Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS), Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), the European network for health technology assessment (EUnetTHA).

Out of 458 participants of the Conference, there were representatives of the practical health care system, pharmacists, heads of health care management bodies and leading scientists of research institutes; teachers of medical and pharmaceutical higher education institutions; pharmacovigilance officers, authorized persons and applicants for medicinal products, as well as other specialists involved in the development, dispensing, prescription and use of medicinal products; representatives of associations of manufacturers of medicinal products; organizations representing and defending patients’ rights and safety. The moderator of one of the sections was the chairman of the Expert Committee on Selection and Use of Basic Medicines of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, Head of the Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, Prof. Oleksandra Oleshchuk. She delivered a report on the “National List of Medicines: Principles of Creation and Extension”, which raised discussion and questions among conference participants. Ass. Halyna Loi attended the School of Young Pharmacologists.
