TNMU Teachers Won the “Pride of Ternopil 2021” TV Award

This year the TV Prize “Ternopil Pride” was established by Ternopil-1 and INTB TV channels. Anyone could submit a candidate or team for this award in 20 nominations. Ternopil residents chose the winners by voting on the website of this award during the first stage, as well as by SMS during the second stage.

On December 16, 2021, the winners were awarded at the Berezil Palace of Culture.

In the nomination “Doctor of the Year” the winner was Volodymyr Piatnochka – Doctor of Science (Medicine), Professor of the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Postgraduate Education, I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, 38 years of practical experience, surgeon of the highest category.

Our famous graduates were also among the top three in this nomination: Serhii Harian, an Honoured Doctor of Ukraine, Head of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of Ternopil Regional Hospital; Yurii Tuharov, an orthopedist-traumatologist of the highest category, work experience 17 years, trainings in leading clinics in Germany, Great Britain, Poland, Italy, Russia and Spain.

Lesia Romanchuk, Associate Professor of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology No.1, writer, bard, member of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine, author of 8 poetry collections and 15 novels, dozens of scientific papers, won in the nomination “Writer of the Year”.

In the same nomination, the top three were Tetiana Ivanitska, Assistant Professor of the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology and Medical Psychology of TNMU, author of two poetry collections and the novel “My Grandfather Was a Polish Immigrant”, Project Manager of the Agnon Literary Centre, winner of the competition of the Smoloskypy publishing house, awardee of a scholarship by the President of Ukraine for young writers.

Stefan Khmil, Professor of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology No.1, founder of the MC “Clinic of Professor Stefan Khmil”, Honoured Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, obstetrician-gynaecologist, reproductive therapist, author of over 350 scientific papers, 25 patents for inventions, 3 monographs and 15 textbooks, academic supervisor for 13 PhDs and  1 DSc.

Svitlana Marchyshyn, the Head of the Department of Pharmacognosy and Medical Botany, Professor, Honoured Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Doctor of Science (Pharmacy), engaged in the study of medicinal plants, their biologically active substances, creation of new herbal remedies based on them, as well as the study of their pharmacological properties, author and co-author of over 500 scientific papers.

Also, Ihor Humennyi, a graduate of TNMU, cardiac surgeon, transplantologist of the Department of Cardiac Surgery and Heart Transplantation of the Cardiovascular Centre of the Clinical Hospital of Emergency Medicine of Lviv, was one of the top three candidates in the nomination “Hero of the Year”. He was the first in Ukraine to perform a lung transplantation.
