TNMU was Visited by Students of N. Yaremchuk Ternopil Lyceum No. 6

On April 17, 2024, TNMU was visited by tenth-grade students of N. Yaremchuk Ternopil Lyceum No. 6. They were accompanied by teachers Olha Kupetska, Olha Lototska and Petro Kravchuk.

Arkadii Shulhai, Vice-Rector for Research and Education, greeted the high school students with a welcome speech. Ihor Drach, Executive Secretary of TNMU Admissions Committee, spoke about the peculiarities of the 2024 admissions campaign.

According to the program of the career guidance visit, lyceum students were told about the peculiarities of the educational and scientific and organizational work of the departments of the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Institute of Morphology.

Associate Professor of the Department of Pharmacy Management and Technology Mariana Demchuk and Associate Professor Anastasia Dub told the schoolchildren about the medical products that can be purchased at the pharmacy. They also showed samples of medical devices used for diagnosis and treatment (electronic thermometers, mechanical, semi-automatic and automatic tonometers, pulse oximeters, nebulizers, etc.).

Associate Professors Olena Pokotylo, Lilia Budniak and Assistant Professor Nadia Malanchuk prepared and conducted a training session, where, using the presentation and exhibits of the educational pharmacy, they talked about the specifics of the organization of such a health care institution, working with commodity stocks, and the peculiarities of over-the-counter and prescription drug dispensing. In addition, the teachers showed how to take prescriptions, form orders and dispense medicines.

Associate Professor of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Maria Mykhalkiv, spoke about the compulsory and elective courses taught at the department, pointing out their importance in preparing a future competitive specialist in the field of pharmacy. She told the lyceum students about the rules of work and safety techniques in the laboratory, demonstrated chemical reactions for the detection of cations in solutions using various reagents, and involved everyone willing in this process.

The Head of the Department of Pharmacognosy and Medical Botany, Professor Svitlana Marchyshyn, speaking about the field of activity of this structural unit, emphasized the close and inseparable connection between the plant world and man as a part of nature. Demonstrating individual samples of the herbarium fund, the professor drew the attention of schoolchildren to useful and harmful plants, told about the medicinal properties of barberry, belladonna, hyoscyamus, dahlia, and celandine, about the rules for harvesting medicinal plant raw materials, and also invited the lyceum students to consider preparations made from carrot root.

The Head of the Department of Histology and Embryology, Professor Zoia Nebesna and Assistant Professor Natalia Ohinska invited the guests to tour the lecture halls and classrooms. The lyceum students visited the morphological sector of the interdepartmental educational and research laboratory, where they got acquainted with modern medical equipment, learned about the rules for working with light-optical and electron microscopes. The teachers also told the students about the academic courses taught at the department.

Ihor Yuryk, Associate Professor of the Department of Pathological Anatomy, Forensic Medicine and Autopsy Course, prepared and conducted a tour of the museum of macropreparations, where he told the schoolchildren about the presented exhibits, about the academic courses taught at the department, and their importance in the practical activities of the future doctor.

Associate professors Ihor Boimystruk, Iryna Kit, Yurii Havryshchuk and Assistant Professor Olha Herman, teachers of the Department of Human Anatomy, focused the attention of future applicants on the organization of the educational process, which is carried out at the department with extensive use of the latest technologies, told about the forms of current and final knowledge testing of students. The guests visited the museum, where they had the opportunity to view the exhibits and received comprehensive answers to questions related to both individual specimens and anatomical science and its role in the process of training a successful practicing physician.
