TSMU Association of Nigerian Students organized a sports festival

A sports festival took place in Ternopil State Medical University for the second year in a row. Last year, the event was organized by the members of Indian Students’ Association, while this year‘s competition was organized by the Association of Nigerian Students of Nigeria.

In a number of tournaments held in April, students competed for the championships in volleyball, basketball, badminton, football, and table tennis.

The festival started on April 7, 2018 with qualifying football matches. Table tennis tournament began on April 13, basketball matches took place on April 14, and volleyball and badminton competitions (doubles and singles) on April 21.

  The football tournament drew eight teams. Nigerian student team took the first place, and students from Egypt placed second.

Abdelkader Mohab Ragab won the man table tennis competition, placing first among the 16 participants. Akinlade Omobayo was second. Uhegbo Precious was took the first place in woman table tennis. In the running competition, Nomhwange Terdoo had the best overall result.

Tour teams participated in the basketball tournament. In the final, the team of Nwosu Ugonna bested team of Papa Yaw Nimoh.

Four teams participated in the volleyball tournament. Rallying in the third set of the final, the volleyball team of Polish students beat TSMU Legends to take the first place.

Vaibhav Tripathi won two medals in badminton competitions. The first one was in a singles tournament, and the second in doubles together with his friend Ashish Tanwar. Dheeraj Vermatook the gold in singles,  while Pranjal Dhadeech and Pyarejaan Abdul Rehman in doubles.

Almost all competitions took place at the athletic complex of Ternopil State Medical University. The winners received awards from Yurii Petrashyk from the dean’s office of International Students’ Faculty and Deputy Head of Center for Educational and Cultural Development, Associate Professor Olena Pokryshko.

The sports festival organized by the Association of Nigerian Students became a great event bringing together students who love sports, want to develop international friendships, and learn about other cultures.
