Ternopil State Medical University inaugurated its Teaching Pharmacy

On November 30, 2017, for the first time in the history of Ternopil State Medical University, the Department of Pharmacy Management, Economics and Technology opened a teaching pharmacy. Located on 36 Ruska St., the new TSMU structure is the result of efforts of professor Taras Hroshovyi, associate professor Antonina Denys, and assistants professors Anastasiia Dub and Lilia Stoiko.

The pharmacy consists of a manager’s office, a sales area and a stock room. It has all the furnishings, equipment, and reference literature in required by the current legislation. Pharmacy computers run specialized licensed software.

The stock room has a workplace for developing practical skills in quantity and quality control, receipt of the goods using the software Paracels and storage of the stocks.

The sales area of the teaching pharmacy is equipped with showcases, cabinets with drawers, shelves, refrigerator and a safe. The pharmacy stocks medicines, medicinal herbs, dietary supplements, medical products, medical cosmetics and personal care products. The products are displayed according to the toxicology group, physical and chemical properties, anatomical-therapeutic-chemical (ATC) classification and merchandising procedures.

Students will be able to learn the basic principles of storage of drugs and medical products and independently place the packs following the March 16, 1993 Order of Ministry of Health of Ukraine No. 44 “On the organization of storage in the pharmacies of different groups of medicines and medical products”.

Training in the pharmacy, the students will strengthen theoretical knowledge and develop practical skills to ensure sanitary conditions in the pharmacy, sale of prescription drugs and calculation of the cost of compounded medical forms.

The sales floor is equipped with a workplace of the supervising pharmacist, where students will be able to interact  to purchase and sell medical products, type in a receipt and fill out necessary documentation.

There are also two designated functional zones:

a customer corner contains all the mandatory documentation, required by law to be accessible in a pharmacy.

a training area for lectures and practical classes has workplaces for 16 students and 1 instructor and is equipped with a video system.

The teaching pharmacy will be used to study the following subjects:

Introduction to Pharmacy, 1st year of study;

Organization and economics of pharmacy, 4th year of study;

Medical and pharmaceutical products, 4th and 5th year of study;

Organization and regulation of pharmacy work, 5th year of study.
