TSMU researcher took part in the 10th International Symposium on Chromatography of Natural Products (ISCNP 2016)

Assistant Professor of TSMU Department of Pharmacognosy with Medical Botany Solomiya Kozachok took part in the 10th International Symposium on Chromatography of Natural Products (ISCNP 2016). The event took place at the Medical University of Lublin on 6-9 June 2016.

The International Symposium on Chromatography of Natural Products was dedicated to discussion of current trends, presentations of the latest findings and exchange ideas on all types of chromatography and similar instrumental equipment used in phytochemical analysis, sample preparation and isolation of bioactive metabolites from medicinal plants, food plants and other natural sources, and demonstration of modern chromatographic equipment and master classes  by leading world companies .

The symposium was attended by 180 participants from 36 countries, who presented their research results on 21 plenary lectures (45 min) and 23 short lectures (20 min), and 125 poster presentations.

The organizers of the conference were: Department of Pharmacognosy and laboratory of medicinal plants of Lublin Medical University and Polish Academy of Sciences. Chairman of the Symposium Kazimierz Głowniak – Professor of the Department of Pharmacognosy and Laboratory of medicinal plants of  Lublin Medical University and a committee member for writing new textbooks and amendments on medicinal plants in the European Pharmacopoeia, scientific secretary were dr. hab. Agnieszka Ludwiczuk and dr. hab. Krystyna Skalicka-Woźniak from the Department of Pharmacognosy and laboratory of medicinal plants.

 The plenary lectures were given by world-renown experts from Europe (Austria – prof. Günther Bonn, prof. Christian W. Huck, Switzerland – prof. Jean-Luc Wolfender, Germany – prof. Gerhard Franz, Poland – prof. Wieslaw Oleszek, prof. Boguslaw Buszewski , France – prof. Richard J. Robins, UK – prof. Simon Gibbons, Luxembourg – prof. Alexander D. Crawford, Greece – prof. During the Symposium werу presented the latest advances in phytochemistry in last thirty years:

  •  more than 200,000 plant substances are known, of which 125 are of medical value;
  • each year structure of more than 5,000 new natural compounds is determined;
  • only 15% of the world’s flora is at least partly researched for content metabolites;
  • the emergence of modern equipment made it possible to expand the horizons of identification of minor metabolites and natural compounds database: for instance 427 compounds are now determined in ginseng root;
  • the number of European Pharmacopoeia monographs on medicinal raw plant material increased from 12 (1st edition, 1969) to 184 (8th edition, 2013);
  • cultivation of medicinal plants in cell and tissue culture is being developed to conserve rare species.

Assistant Department of Pharmacognosy with medical botany, Dr. Solomia Kozachok (the only participant from Ukraine) presented two posters on the topics OLEANANE TYPE SAPONINS FROM HERNIARIA POLYGAMA J.GAY – authors Solomiia Kozachok, Marchyshyn Svitlana, Haddad Mohamed, Marti Guillaume, Fabre Nicolas, Vansteelandt Marieke; and «DETERMINATION OF FLAVONOIDS IN FLOWERS OF HERBS FROM PRIMULA GENUS BY HPLC METHOD» – Sinichenko Ania, Marchyshyn Svitlana, Shostak Lubov, Kozachok Solomiia.
