TSMU researchers took part in international pediatric conference

On March 30, 2018, the First Pediatric Ukrainian-Lithuanian School of Respiratory Diseases and the 22nd Vilnius International School of Pediatric Pulmonology and Allergology took place in Vinnytsia. The event was organized under the auspices of the Ukrainian Academy of Pediatrics with the support of the Podilsky Pediatric Association, Pirogov Vinnytsia National Medical University, the Department of Health of Vinnytsia Regional State Administration and Vinnytsia City Council. Ternopil delegation on this event included associate professors of the Ternopil State Medical University Department of Pediatrics №2 Svitlana Nikytiuk and Natalia Haliiash, associate professor of the Department of Children’s Diseases and Pediatric Surgery Tetiana Harian, as well as the doctors of Ternopil Regional Children’s hospital.

Overall, more than 400 representatives of the medical community from participated in the forum, together with the guests from Lithuania, Moldova, the Netherlands and United Kingdom.

Presentations by Arunas Valiulis (Lithuania) and Andrew Bush (UK) spotlighted European approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of bronchial asthma, including severe and difficult to control cases. Other presentations outlined current methods of treatment and diagnosis of primary endemic dyskinesia, antibiotic therapy and resistance. “We treat 90% of pneumonia in outpatient setting, with semi-synthetic penicillins and there is no reason you cannot do it as well,” said Professor Valiulis.

Associate professor VNMU pediatrics department Oleksandr Katilov in his report touched on importance of teaching the patient to use correctly different types of delivery devices in the treatment of bronchial asthma. Often, even though the condition is correctly diagnosed and effective medicines prescribed, the treatment might be incorrect and thus incomplete.
