TSMU scholar participated in Horizon 2020 meeting

On October 27, 2017, the European Commission announced new Horizon 2020 Work Programs for 2018-2020.

Horizon 2020 is the largest research and innovation program. It is “open to the world”, meaning that researchers, universities, research organizations, companies and non-governmental organizations from any country can apply for calls. Financed calls have already brought in investments totaling 30 billion euros. The 2018-2020 Work Program underscores the importance of international cooperation in research and innovation with a budget of over 1 billion euros.

The EaP PLUS Project, financed by HORIZON 2020, is aimed at researchers from the Eastern Partnership countries (Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan). Its goal is to promote research and innovation cooperation between the countries of the European Union (EU) and the countries of the Eastern Partnership (EaP) for the effective use of the existing opportunities for such a collaboration.

Thanks to an EaP PLUS Travel grant, Oksana Shevchuk, Associate professor in Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology, attended the Brokerage Event on Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials, which took place on November 15-16, 2017 in Munich, Germany. Brokerage activities are intended to facilitate the search for partners to organize consortia and partnerships for the development of project proposals for Horizon 2020 calls.

The event was organized by the National Contact Points of Germany, Great Britain, Poland and Bayerische Forschungsallianz (BayFOR) / Bavarian Research Alliance with the assistance of the British Consulate in Germany. The brokerage meeting was held at the Bavarian Ministry of Economy and Media.

Taking part in the event were over 160 participants from Germany, England, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Poland, Turkey, Italy, Greece, France and other countries. After the welcoming remarks by Rosita Cottone (BMBF), Karin Rißmann (Bayerisches Staatministerium für Wirtschaft und Medien, Medien, Energie und Technologie), Jacqui Murray (Innovative UK) and Andrzej Osiak (Consul General of Poland), the participants worked in one of 7 sessions of bilateral B2B meetings.

A representative of the European Commission, Helene Chraye, Head of Unit Advanced Materials and Nanotechnologies, gave a detailed presentation of the requirements for open Horizon programs.

Eva Brockhaus (NCP for Materials) and Panteleimon Panagiotou (Enterprise Europe Network (EEN), Bavarian Research Alliance (BayFor) presented additional information for the participants and potential applicants toHorizon 2020 calls.
