TSMU students donated equipment for rehabilitation of children with special needs

To mark International Children’s Day on June 1, 2018 TSMU students Abdelgawwad Ahmed Salem Mohammed, Saleh Abdelrahman Khaled Ibrahim, Juliet KusiBoateng, Daniel Aganren, Osman Sheriff Abdulkadir, Alele PreciousGift and deputy director of Ternopil State Medical University Center for Academic and Cultural Development Olena Pokryshko visited the educational complex №28 in Ternopil. The visit was a part of the project Let’s Make Life of Children Happier that took place at TSMU in April and May. Representatives of our university brought students of the school rehabilitation equipment.

The children were delighted to receive the gift, since the tools for physical therapy are always in great demand. Children enjoyed having fun on the slide, crawling in the tunnel, playing games and talking with the guests.

Director of the Educational Complex №28 Olena Shevchuk on behalf of the entire team thanked the students for their compassion and willingness to help, and to TSMU staff and administration supporting this noble aspiration. She noted that donated equipment would significantly contribute to recovery of the children, giving them more chances to be happy, feel support of the society and develop their physical abilities.

The educational complex offers primary education for children with and without developmental disorders. In particular, they teach children with speech disorders and children with visual impairments or blindness. There is also an inclusive group for blind children and children with mental delays, where they are taught the skills required for everyday life. The group for children with speech disorders includes preschoolers with special educational needs, who are using special enriched educational environment to reach development and social adaptation goals.

Charity drive Let’s Make Life of Children Happier involved a number of fundraising events taking place for two months (See https://www.tdmu.edu.ua/en/2018/04/17/ternopil-state-medical-university-students-launched-a-new-initiative-let-s-make-the-life-of-children-happier/ and https://www.tdmu.edu.ua/en/2018/05/23/festival-of-global-cuisines-took-place-at-tsmu/ ). Altogether, TSMU staff and students raised nearly 20 thousand hryvnias, and these funds were used to purchase equipment for the rehabilitation room. TSMU students hope that children using the room will enjoy playing and improving their physical abilities.

TSMU administration, faculty and staff express their sincere gratitude to all the students who responded to the call for help from children, and to all those who donated for the cause.
