Working visit of the delegation from the Polish town of Nowy Tomyśl to Ternopil State Medical University

Ternopil State Medical University has close ties with universities, research and medical institutions of the Republic of Poland, and is constantly expanding cooperation with institutions of this country.

On August 26 the delegation from Nowy Tomyśl, which included the head of the Nowotomyski county Ireneusz Kozecki, head of the department of Education and Culture Marek Nykowiak, board member of the  Nowotomyski county council Adam Pilc, and member of the labor office of the  Nowotomyski county Emilia Michalczak-Woniak met with the rector of Ternopil State Medical University, professor Mykhaylo Korda to discuss new areas of cooperation. They invited Mykhaylo Korda to visit Nowy Tomyśl, in particular to familiarize him with the large hospital in their city, its activities, facilities and equipment. The members of the delegation noted that by the end of 2017 this institution will be fully compliant with all standards of the European Union. Ternopil State Medical University can participate in joint projects with the hospital, especially those aimed at practical training of the students or clinical and teaching staff exchanges.

The Head of the county Ireneusz Kozecki noted that Poland experiences shortage of doctors and nurses, in particular of anesthesiologists, pediatricians, and internists. One of the ways to address this problem is to implement a program of professional exchange visits between the county hospital and TSMU. This will be the subject of a cooperation agreement to be signed very soon between the county, the hospital and TSMU. Another future area of collaboration is medical and physical rehabilitation, which growth in demand in Poland. TSMU is known for its high academic level of training specialists in physical rehabilitation.

In conclusion of the meeting Ireneusz Kozecki noted that “exchanges of experts are useful and important, because no nation has the perfect recipe for everything.”
