A TSMU Student Took Part in a Ukrainian-German Project by the Ukrainian Association of Medical Students

Recently a 3rd year student of the Faculty of Medicine of Ternopil State Medical University Iryna Pidhaina as member of a delegation of the Ukrainian Association of Medical Students had an opportunity to gain a valuable experience from German experts in medicine. The Ukrainian Association of Medical Students cooperates with youth NGOs from other countries and helps the rising Ukrainian physicians to improve their leadership and professional skills. The TSMU students are active members of this association, they are involved into different projects, conferences, seminars and other events.

This time the German organization offered the members of the abovementioned association to collaborate with German experts in medicine for 10 days. The training took place in the form of discussions, seminars and informal meetings and planning of joint projects.

“During this time we were very busy. We met with representatives of the German Association of Medical Students Bundesvertretung der Medizinstudierenden in Deutschland e.V. »(BVMD), the organization Bund Deutscher Pfadfinder Innen Landesverband Berlin. We gained a lot of interesting ideas and experience in social work.

The meeting with the professor of Brandenburg University, MD, former Chief Doctor of the Brandenburg Clinic and a famous expert in oncology, gynecology and medical informatics Eberhard Beck. He shared his experience with us. We learned more about such fields of medicine as oncology, gynecology and medical informatics. We also got acquainted with the Head of the Student Council of this university. We got familiar with the organization of one of the best clinics in Europe Charite, and also visited the Otto Bock-Center and many fairs and exhibitions. We have got a lot of positive impressions and pleasant memories of Berlin. We have also gained a valuable professional experience and chosen the fields of medical studies for further professional development. These events are important for students during their studies because they help to find a specialty, to make some plans and select your professional area. You can also find a lot of associates and friends”, Iryna Pidhaina said.

The young people also were lucky with the sightseeing arranged by German colleagues. They visited many museums, art galleries, city-rally, historical monuments of the city.

“During our visit our German colleagues showed different Berlin to us. This city is famous not only for the Reichstag, Brandenburger Tor and the Berlin Wall but also for its architecture, old universities, places of interest and preserved historical monuments. It is a bright city with very hearty people”, the girl added.

Iryna Pidhaina participated in an international programme and represents our university in international project for the first time. Due to a very strict national competition she got an opportunity to participate in significant French-German-Polish-Ukrainian project, which aims the socially active Ukrainian youth to adopt the European experience in organization and implementation of international projects. Five more young leaders from Ukraine passed the competition as well. In general, each country- participant: Poland, France, Germany and Ukraine delegated 6 representatives. During the first part of the project the young people took part at several workshops abroad.
