Improvement of the “General Medicine” Training Program with the Participation of Employers in the Field of Health Care

On August 28, 2023, a meeting was held between the guarantor of the training program “General Medicine”, Professor Oleksandra Oleschuk, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Professor Petro Lykhatskyi, and the General Director of the Ternopil Regional Clinical Hospital, Honoured Doctor of Ukraine, DSc in Medicine, Vasyl Blihar.
During the meeting, the unsatisfied needs of local self-government bodies and employers regarding personnel of the health care system in wartime conditions and the period of reforming the system were discussed. The importance of making changes to the medical training program aimed at developing the competences, knowledge and skills of students, taking into account their future specialization, was emphasized.

Special attention was paid to the skills of providing urgent and emergency aid in emergency situations and military conflict. The participants of the meeting expressed a common opinion on the need to adjust training programs to the challenges of modern times. Vasyl Blikhar emphasized that medical education should be focused on practical skills and specific situations that students may encounter in real clinical practice.

As a result of the meeting, opinions were exchanged on improving the content of the training program and further cooperation, in particular, conducting practical classes with students at the institution with practicing professionals. This meeting highlighted the importance of collaboration between the university, employers and local governments to ensure that doctors are sufficiently trained to respond effectively to the needs of society. The participants of the meeting discussed issues of further cooperation and improvement of practical skills of future doctors.
