Maria Marushchak spoke about the peculiarities of postgraduate studies in this specialty, the integration of the National Nursing Institute in the international space, the established scientific schools of nursing at TNMU, the expectations and prospects of the program, as well as the achievements of current post-graduate students and graduates. Maria Marushchak noted that the creation of a strong scientific locus in the field of nursing is a priority for the profession. Although less than 1% of today’s nurses worldwide hold a PhD, these individuals are in high professional demand as the need for scientists, educators and leaders in the field of nursing increases. Colleagues from the Lebedyn Professional Medical College confirmed the need for the development of science in the direction of nursing and suggested possible areas of cooperation.
Svitlana Danchak drew attention to the key importance of quality medical education for representatives of the medical field, especially nurses and doctors. She shared the experience of training students at the second (master’s) level of higher education at the Institute of Nursing and emphasized the need to develop relevant competences in future specialists. The practical skills that a master of nursing should possess require a review of approaches to the training of professionals in this field. It is also important to maintain constant communication with students and other interested persons.
Zhanna Smolova spoke about the main directions of the college’s work and noted that the main emphasis in students’ education is on their high-quality mastery of practical skills. For this purpose, the college staff have established a simulation centre, which is actively developing. A video film about the activity of the simulation centre during practical classes and exams was presented. She noted that the teachers of the college are studying remotely at the Institute of Nursing of TNMU to obtain a master’s degree.
Yuliia Danylevych presented the training program “Nursing” for bachelors. Emphasis is placed on an individual educational pathway for applicants with the option of choosing elective courses, which allows students to study specialized medical practices and develop their practical skills. Attention was also focused on the features of this year’s admission to TNMU on the basis of a junior specialist’s diploma, as well as the possibility of studying in the training program “Nursing” remotely, which makes it possible to combine studies with practical activities.
In general, during the discussions, it was stated that the education of nurses is not limited to obtaining a diploma of junior specialist, junior bachelor, bachelor or master of nursing, but should continue at the third, research level of higher education in order to ensure a scientific continuum in the field of nursing.
According to the results of the meeting, potential areas of cooperation were outlined, namely:
- Meeting of TNMU employees with students of college graduation courses for the purpose of conducting career guidance work;
- Conducting joint scientific research;
- Conducting visiting lectures by university teachers for students and college teachers in online format.
