Online Course on Art Therapy at TNMU
TNMU has launched an online course on art therapy for Medical Faculty students and interns in “Psychiatry.” Classes are conducted by certified specialists from Lesley University, located in the heart of Cambridge (Massachusetts, USA).

Founded in 1909, Lesley University specializes in pedagogy, mental health and well-being, and art and design educational programs.
The team led by the Professor of the Expressive Therapy Department, Prof. Dr. Mitchell Kossak, LMHC, REAT, has already conducted the first class, which aroused great interest among students. They got acquainted with the key principles of art therapy and its integration into the treatment process, as well as with examples of successful use of art therapy for patients with traumatic experiences.

Students and interns liked the innovative approach to therapy, the interactivity of the classes, and the possibility of practical application of the acquired knowledge.

The course students had the opportunity to independently test the techniques of music and art therapy, working through their own emotions, thoughts, and experiences. This enabled them to:
- gain practical experience in the use of art psychotherapy to overcome the consequences of traumatic events.
- develop the skills of interpreting, predicting, and correcting the behavior of others, relying on non-verbal aspects and the results of art activities.
- increase the level of empathy and self-reflection, as well as form professional awareness and communication skills, which are important for work in social-cognitive and communicative fields.
- improve subjective general state and strengthen mental health, which will help prevent professional burnout.

This course contributes to a deeper understanding of therapeutic processes and helps the students improve their professional skills and emotional state, which is important for their professional development.
