ISPOR (International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research) is a leading global organization dedicated to advancing health economics, pharmacoeconomics, and outcomes research for evidence-based decision-making to improve global health.

Professor Oleksandra Oleshchuk, head of the Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology at TNMU, was invited to the congress not only as a distinguished academic but also as a member of the Ukrainian Ministry of Health’s working group on the National Medicines List and the Ukrainian ISPOR chapter.

Under the congress’s theme, “Generating Evidence Toward Health and Well-Being,” three plenary and 140 topical sessions addressed strategic policy issues in healthcare and pharmaceutical economics.

Key Contributions of Professor Oleshchuk:

Delivered a talk titled “Landscape of Pharmaceutical Policy in Ukraine: Risk Management and Opportunities for Progress During the War” at the ISPOR Ukraine, Poland, and Hungary division session.

Discussed Ukraine’s challenges in ensuring access to essential medicines amid the full-scale war, sharing insights on how health technology assessment (HTA) facilitates rational allocation of resources under critical conditions.

Consortium Engagement:

Participated in the Central and Eastern European Consortium, fostering regional collaboration on pharmaceutical policies and health economics.

Networking with Global Experts:

Engaged with renowned pharmacoeconomists, including Prof. Panos Kanavos, Prof. Zoltan Kalo, and Prof. Jaime Caro, paving the way for collaborative research and publications.

Judging Panel:

Served as a jury member for evaluating poster and podium presentations, enhancing the academic rigor of the congress.

Exploring Innovations:

Gained insights into cutting-edge tools and technologies in pharmacoeconomics, including the application of AI in analyzing clinical and research data.

Broader Impact:

Participation in ISPOR Europe 2024 provided a platform for Ukraine’s voice in the global medical community, highlighting the realities of war and addressing unmet needs for medicines, medical devices, and healthcare systems during crises. The Congress also facilitated the exchange of knowledge on improving pharmaceutical policies and integrating new approaches into the education of medical and pharmacy students in Ukraine.

The visit was funded through a personal travel grant from ISPOR (USA), ensuring the representation of Ukrainian expertise on the international stage.
