Evening of Remembrance for Professor Volodymyr Kondratiuk at TNMU
An evening of remembrance dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of Professor Volodymyr Andriiovych Kondratiuk was held at Ternopil National Medical University in a warm circle of friends, colleagues, students, and family members. A world-renowned specialist in water hygiene and water supply, he earned unquestioned authority not only at his home university but also among leading scholars at medical universities and research institutions throughout Ukraine. For 54 years, Professor V. A. Kondratiuk worked tirelessly within the walls of TNMU, becoming one of the founders of the Department of General Hygiene and Ecology. Having honorably progressed from assistant to professor, he educated more than one generation of physicians and researchers, leaving a profound mark on Ukrainian medicine.

The evening was opened by the Head of the Department of Physiology with Bioethics, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Professor Stepan Vadziuk. In his speech, he emphasized the unquestioned authority of Professor Kondratiuk and the deep respect he commanded among colleagues and students, highlighting the multifaceted nature of his personality, his exceptional kindness, wisdom, and tireless dedication to work.

Professor Kondratiuk’s daughter, Professor Olena Lototska, Head of the Department of General Hygiene and Ecology, movingly recounted his biography, the key stages of his professional development, and his scientific achievements.

Professor Liudmyla Fira, Head of the Department of Postgraduate Education and Professional Development of Pharmacists, spoke about her experience working under Professor Kondratiuk’s leadership in the 1980s. She sincerely noted that the knowledge and practical skills gained during contract research projects repeatedly proved invaluable in her own subsequent scientific work.

Associate Professor Halyna Krytska of the Department of General Hygiene and Ecology shared warm memories of decades of collaboration with Professor Kondratiuk. A special place in her recollections is occupied by their visits to leading scientific institutions in Kyiv — the O. O. Bohomolets National Medical University and the O. M. Marzieiev Institute of Public Health. She emphasized the extraordinary respect and goodwill with which prominent capital-based scholars always welcomed him. His authority among his colleagues in Kyiv was unquestionable, and every meeting with him took place in an atmosphere of deep respect and sincerity.

Words of gratitude and deep respect for Volodymyr Kondratiuk were expressed by Associate Professor Olha Lytvynova of the Department of Public Health and Healthcare Management. She noted that she will always remember his invaluable support and professional assistance.

An interesting story of cooperation with Professor Kondratiuk was shared by Professor Ihor Halaichuk, Head of the Department of Oncology, Radiation Diagnostics and Therapy, and Radiation Medicine. As it turned out, the scholars were united not only by medicine but also by a long-standing shared passion — their love for the Esperanto language, which they enthusiastically studied in their youth.

Warm memories were also shared by Professor Olha Denefil, Head of the Department of Pathological Physiology, Associate Professor Kateryna Yuriiv of the same department, Professor Svitlana Pidruchna, Head of the Department of Medical Biochemistry, Professor Volodymyr Shmanko of the Department of Pharmacology with Clinical Pharmacology, and TNMU Chief Accountant Tetiana Mudryk. Each of them retains only the brightest impressions of communicating with this outstanding individual. In their memories, he remains a person of sincere character and high professional ethics.

Among those present were also TNMU Rector Petro Lykhatskyi, Head of the Academic Department Andrii Mashtalir, Head of the Department of Pharmacology with Clinical Pharmacology Oleksandra Oleshchuk, and Professor Kateryna Posokhova of the same department, Head of the Department of Medical Biology Larysa Fedoniuk, and staff members of the Department of General Hygiene and Ecology.
