Scientists from Ternopil State Medical University participated in the XVII National Congress of Cardiologists of Ukraine

On September 21-23 in Kiev took place the XVII Congress of Cardiologists of Ukraine, which attracted more than 2,000 participants from Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, Czech Republic, Italy, the UK and other countries. This year marks particularly significant events for Ukrainan cardiologists: a state institution Strazhesko National Research Centre, Institute of Cardiology NAMS of Ukraine was founded 80 years ago and its founder Mykola Strazhesko was born 140 years ago. Ternopil State Medical University Graduates of 2016 now study at Ukrainian Military Medical Academy

In 2016 all medical universities of Ukraine opened departments of military medicine. The antiterrorist operation in the east has significantly changed the long-term security policy in Ukraine. In his speech to mark the 25th anniversary of the country’s independence, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that strong army is a key to security of our country. International pulmonology school Topical issues in Pulmonology: modern approaches to obstruction treatment and immunotherapy opened on September 22 at Ternopil State Medical University. Professor Emeritus of Wroclaw Medical University Wojciech Barg came to TSMU to take part in this event. Professors of the Department of Pharmacognosy with Medical Botany of Ternopil State Medical University M.Shanayda, I.Dahym, T.Berdey and of the department of management and economics of pharmacy and drug technology I.Berdey participated in International Young Scientists Symposium “Plants in Pharmacy & Nutrition” (PPN2016) which took place on 15-17 September in Wroclaw (Poland). Meeting with a leading British neurosurgeon Henry Marsh in Ternopil State Medical University

On 21 September Professor Henry Marsh and his colleagues, neurosurgeon Andriy Myzak (Lviv, Ukraine) and Roman Zoltowski (Poznan, Poland) visited Ternopil State Medical University at the invitation of the university administration and Student Council. Dr. Marsh, CBE,  is a co-founder and senior neurosurgeon of the International Neurosurgery Center, a member of the Royal College of Neurosurgeons and the author of critically acclaimed memoir Do No Harm: Stories of Life, Death and Brain Surgery, which was translated into Ukrainian by Dr. Myzak. Ternopil State Medical University develops joint projects with Polish colleagues in the area of functional rehabilitation

Representatives of the Polish functional rehabilitation center VOTUM (Kraków), its president Paweł Adamkiewicz, lawyer Joan Wan and Przemysław Szczygłowski met on September 2oth with the rector of Ternopil State Medical University, Professor Mykhaylo Korda to develop cooperation initiatives . The guests shared that a Polish-Ukrainian rehabilitation center has already opened in Ivano-Frankivsk. There  patients with severe neurological diseases and injuries can undergo rehabilitation on outpatient basis. This institution also helps ATO soldiers improve their health. Open door days at TSMU library

Henry Marsh, a renowned British neurosurgeon will visit Ternopil State Medical University on the invitation of TSMU Student Council and administration on September 21, 2016 Dr. Marsh will meet with the student body and give a lecture titled What Does It Take to Be a Good Doctor. The lecture will take place at 16.00 in the main convocation hall of TSMU administrative building (Maidan Voli, 1). Ternopil State Medical University expands collaboration with clinical training centers in Poland

On September 16th representatives of the Polish company EMC Instytut Medyczny SA attended Ternopil State Medical University with working visit. Members of the delegation,  Head Project Manager Michal Kuhta and HR-manager Anna Keldanowicz met with the rector of TSMU, Professor Mykhailo Korda to discussed areas of cooperation.   The meeting resulted in a proposal to sign a number of agreements with Polish hospitals, which would serve as clinical sites where students of the University to go on internship and traineeship visits. On September 16 meetings of alumni who graduated from the University 15 and 25  years ago took place in Ternopil State Medical University. Ternopil State Medical University Students developed a project within the framework of promoting academic integrity

On September 16-18 Ternopil State Medical University held a three-day training seminar for the students and faculty within the framework of promoting academic integrity in Ukraine. The event was organized jointly with the representatives of the Active Citizens program (British Council in Ukraine). The event was held simultaneously in 10 universities participating in SAIUP with the help from local facilitators from the British Council. Analytical Center CEDOS ranked TSMU as one of the most transparent institutions of higher education in Ukraine

During February-July 2016 the analytical center CEDOS carried out an analytical study of the information published on official websites of Ukrainian universities, their faculties and departments, as well as responses to information requests. Transparency of universities was evaluated based on six components (indicators), including administrative transparency, financial transparency, strategic development plan, information on employment opportunities for graduates,  about the possibility of international exchanges and information on academic plans. Chervona Kalyna, TSMU’s educational and recreational facility, hosted theoretical and applied science conference Emergency abdominal surgery in cancer patients  on September 12th and 13th . Recently a student of the Medical Faculty of Ternopil State Medical University Bohdana Pereviznyk took part in  Eastern Europe FLEX-Ability Workshop 2016, a meeting held annually by the American Councils for International Education. In 2010-2011 Bohdana has participated in FLEX (Future Leaders Exchange) program, during which she studied at Evans High School (Augusta, Georgia, USA). TSMU dentistry students started using a renovated study hall

Each academic year at Ternopil State Medical University starts with improved facilities for both studying and living. The most recent improvements include an upgraded emergency nurse’s station, renovated and modernized university library, newly-created phantom class, and more. A special meeting of academic council of Ternopil State Medical University took place on September 7, 2016 under the chairmanship of vice-rector for scientific and academic work, Professor Arkadiy Shulhai.
